Introduction

This page contains a repository of historic resources developed as part of the Practice Supervisor Development Programme (PSDP) that were previously hosted on the PSDP website. PSDP aimed to empower practitioners to build confidence, mobilise academic knowledge and practice expertise, and work in partnership with the sector.

If a particular resource is not showing on this page it means it has been archived or adapted for other chapters of the hub. It may be available on request so please contact us and we will be able to support.

Lets talk about racism and barriers to career progression

The killing of George Floyd in the United States in 2020 and its galvanising impact on the Black Lives Matter movement sharpened global attention on the issue of racism. We have collaborated with three practice leaders to explore how racism has affected their professional lives, and what needs to change.

Rashida Baig MBE (Head of Service) and Brian Amos (Service Manager) from the London Borough of Croydon met with Nimal Jude (Practice Development Manager) from SCIE and reflected together as part of an unscripted discussion which was filmed.

This first film explores barriers to career progression.

Anxiety within systems and organisational containment

In this short film, Professor Gillian Ruch explores how anxiety can develop in systems which do not make workers feel contained and outlines why middle leaders need to pay attention to this common defence response in organisations.

Three lines of sight in supervision

In this short film Yvette Stanley, National Director for Social Care at OFSTED presents her analysis of the key elements of effective supervision in child and family social work. She argues that there should be three clear lines of sight in supervision.

You might also find it useful to read a blog by Yvette sharing OFSTED’s perspective on reflective supervision.
