Since the introduction of Family Group Conferences in New Zealand in the early 1990s there has been a wealth of international research concerning its effectiveness. Much of this has explored the views of participants, and this has consistently reported that family group conferences are positively received by all involved.

Sean discusses the research findings in more detail in this the video.

Reflective questions

Here are reflective questions to stimulate conversation and support practice.

  1. What does the research say about the impact of FGCs?
  2. Did you find anything surprising about the research findings?

You could use these questions in a reflective session or talk to a colleague. You can save your reflections and access these in the Research in Practice Your CPD area.
