To support Deaf Awareness Week, we have brought together Research in Practice resources that focus on supporting Deaf and hard of hearing people.
Deaf Awareness Week aims to empower and inspire Deaf individuals to celebrate their identities and to feel confident with their deafness by sharing inspiring stories and resources, including different communication methods and information on deaf history and culture.
This year, the UK Council on Deafness will be using Deaf Awareness Week to highlight the impact of hearing loss on everyday life, the importance of visibility and inclusion of underrepresented groups amongst Deaf individuals, and the importance of mental health support.

Our Strategic Briefing on Developing effective and person-centred mental health support for Deaf and hard of hearing people aims to raise awareness of how Deaf and hard of hearing people may currently experience mental health support and to highlight ways in which leaders in health and social care can work with Deaf and hard of hearing people to improve mental health support.
In addition, our short British Sign Language (BSL) video highlights some of the key themes of the briefing that include accessibility, awareness, and being mindful of how Deaf and hard of hearing people might identify – in order to support best practice in mental health support.
