Supporting the wellbeing of carers of people with complex mental health needs

The research practice partnerships have produced short evidence briefings in response to questions raised by partner agencies

Supporting the wellbeing of carers of people with complex mental health needs

Key messages:

  • Carers can benefit from carer-focussed education and support programmes that include information about conditions, treatment and management and opportunities for mutual support and discussion.
  • Social care commissioners should work alongside mental health service colleagues to ensure therapeutic programmes are available to carers and that referral pathways are in place to enable access to them.

Reflective questions:

  • How do you ensure that the wellbeing of carers is considered in your practice and what would be the warning signs that a carer needs some additional support?
  • What information and services are available to support carer wellbeing in your organisation and in the community?
