Single-handed care

The research practice partnerships have produced short evidence briefings in response to questions raised by partner agencies

Single-handed care

Key messages:

  • There is limited evidence from research and lived experience as to the effectiveness or best approaches to single handed care.
  • There is some evidence that, to be successful, single-handed care requires engagement with all parties such as care providers, families and carers, and training opportunities for staff and assessors to build confidence in techniques and equipment.

Reflective questions:

  • Are there people you support who would be suitable and benefit from single-handed care initiatives?
  • Is there training available to build confidence with equipment and technology that enables you and your colleagues to better support people?
